about

This track is the first single in RRL retirement 'sendoff series'. It is a warm and fuzzy mid-tempo springtime empowerment jam. The song's roots synthesise classic-country verve with dreamy soft rock (i.e Kasey Musgraves). The saxophone accents are bright points on a towering constellation of misty male/female vocals and shimmering synthesizers.

The song has taken on a few identities since it was written 4 years ago. It was originally conceived out of RRL's aspiration to become better people and also as an attempt to get out from under the dark cloud of negativity that marked that period. Now it’s transformed into an encouraging message of hope and perseverance. It is a fitting message in these troublesome times.

Flower in the Concrete sets a celestial, lighthearted tone that takes you floating through the spirit of Spring and lands you softly at the foot of Summer.

lyrics

Bluebell and Primrose in her hair
And tissue flowers
Strollin' the streets of San Francisco in the rain
Rollin' over concepts in her head
Afire with sunlight
And the fullness of the world inside her heart

From the battle-born state she has spread
Contagious Sapphire
Her laugh still echoes in the wild Nevada breeze
All the way to Sausalito Bay
She brings the sunlight
And the fullness of the world inside her heart

She's a flower in the concrete
When she lays down her road
From the places she comes from
To the places she goes
She brings with insistence a love to impart
And the fullness of the world inside her heart
And the fullness of the world inside her heart

No hurt owns a wilderness
So deep and heavy
Enough to stump the sun and leave her in the dark
Her moon radiates a black night
Like dust to starlight
And the fullness of the world inside her heart

She's a flower in the concrete
When she lays down her road
From the places she comes from
To the places she goes
She brings with insistence a love to impart
And the fullness of the world inside her heart
And the fullness of the world inside her heart

Oh she spreads like the dew
Seeds of sunshine for you
And in the darkness you grew to be a flower

in the concrete
When you lay down your road
From the places you come from
To the places you go
Bring with insistence a love to impart
And the fullness of the world inside your heart
And the fullness of the world inside your heart
